The Town of Southern Pines is looking for volunteers to serve on an advisory committee to help guide its long-range comprehensive plan.
During a recent session, the Town Council requested that a notice be posted regarding the opportunity in order to ensure all interested residents were included for consideration. A press release was issued, and an article on the Council’s request was published on August 28 in The Pilot.
Of the dozens that have submitted their names so far, Council hopes to establish a group of about 20 that represent a wide range of community interests and backgrounds. Committee members will meet regularly during the year-long project to ensure the plan reflects community goals and values, includes appropriate policy direction, and presents an accurate vision of the community’s desired future. Each member will be expected to attend approximately one meeting per month for the duration of the planning process, and to help engage the larger community by speaking to others about what the plan will likely address.
“We’re excited by the level of interest residents have expressed so far,” said Bill Grimes of Studio Cascade, lead consultant for the planning process. “When our public meetings and outreach efforts begin, we hope many, many more residents will take part and really help shape the plan” he said.
Those interested for appointment to the advisory committee should contact Reagan Parsons, Town Manager, at 910-692-7021 or e-mail a letter of interest to townmanager@southernpines.net by no later than Monday, September 8th.
A copy of the press release issued by the Town is included below, as well as a copy of the Pilot article “S.P. Seeks Members for Planning Panel”, authored by Staff Writer Matthew Moriarty published on August 28.
